Donna Paula Beach in panjim goa

As a Goan who’s spent countless evenings watching the sun dip into the Arabian Sea at Dona Paula, I can tell you this isn’t just another tourist spot – it’s where our local stories come alive. Let me take you on a personal journey through this iconic jetty that we locals affectionately call “Lovers’ Point.”

Remember those Bollywood scenes you’ve watched? Simgham was one, Many were filmed right here,  but trust me, the real magic lies in the untold stories that we locals cherish. I still remember my grandmother telling me tales of the Portuguese noble lady Dona Paula, whose statue stands proudly at the jetty.

Story Behind Dona Paula Beach in Goa

In the heart of panjim city , 5 kms from Miramar beach, where the mighty Mandovi and Zuari rivers embrace in an eternal dance, lies a tale  that has been woven into the Goan history. During Portuguese rule in goa, Dona Paula Daughter of a viceroy, was know throught out goa. The story goes that she fell deeply in love with a local fisherman, their hearts intertwined like the rivers that meet at this very spot. But fate had other plans. When her father, the Viceroy, learned of this love that crossed social boundaries, he forbade their union. In an act that would immortalize her name, Dona Paula chose the depths of the sea over a life without love, leaping from the cliffs that now bear her name.

It’s a tale that we locals have passed down through generations, sometimes in whispers, sometimes in songs, but always with a touch of reverence.

Secondly you should definitely try water sports at the dona paula jetty, The counter near the entrance offers jet skiing for ₹500, but here’s what the guide books won’t tell you,  the best time for these activities is early morning when the waters are calm and the humidity hasn’t kicked in.
